Carpet & Fabric Protection

Special Report! “Why you should Always get carpet and fabric protection”

Unfortunately, there is a great deal of confusion about carpet protectors in our industry. Whether it is an issue of being undertrained or uneducated, some carpet cleaners give out false information, and in the worst cases, misrepresent the product.

Man Cleaning a Carpet Flooring — DFW, TX — Platinum Service Group

WARNING: The original protector that “was” in your carpet may be GONE and is now leaving you EXPOSED!

A nylon stain-resist carpet is made with 2 protective properties:

  • Acid dye blocker
In terms is a clear dye that fills the extra dye sites in a fiber. This helps to keep “foreign” dyes (such as red dye in a beverage) from pentrating into the carpet fiber.
  • A “fluorochemical”
It is commonly known as 3M Scotchgard R or DuPont Teflon R. This treatment helps prevent spillage from penetrating into the acid dye blocker, but its primary purpose is to resist dry soil.

By resisting dry soil, less soil bonds to the carpet, therefore being picked up by our vacuum or cleaning. Insuring you have a sufficient amount of protector on your carpet will prevent the soil from bonding to the carpet. Once it bonds to the carpet, it acts like sandpaper on your traffic areas. Once the traffic area yarns are broken down, there is no way to bring them back to their original state.

2 Primary ways that factory protector is removed from a carpet…

  1. Foot Traffic. Over a period of 6 months to 2 years depending on the traffic, a significant amount of protector can be removed from your traffic areas. At this time, it is recommended that protector be reapplied.
  2. High Alkaline Cleaner. Many companies use harsh chemicals on the carpet that will strip the factory protection. If you have had your carpet cleaned in the past, there is a chance the type of cleaning or the chemical the company used during the cleaning process removed a significant amount of protector. In this case, as well, it is recommended the protector be reapplied.

If you had carpet protector applied in the past and it “didn’t work” , here is why…

4 mistakes other cleaners make in applying protector

  • Not using high quality protector. Discount protectors are not as effective and sometimes void the warranty of the carpet. Platinum uses only the highest quality, recommended protectors.
  • Not using a dedicated container. Using the same container for carpet protector as other cleaners can contaminate the carpet protector making it gummy and ifeffective. Our trucks have a dedicated container reserved only for carpet protector.
  • Not applying the product properly. Some cleaners either under apply or over apply the protector.
  • Not grooming the carpet. For the best performance, the product should be groomed into the carpet for maximum penetration. This ensures contact with all surfaces of the carpet yarn and proper distribution and drying. Platinum thoroughly grooms the protector into the carpet pile.

“So what happens if I don’t apply carpet protector?”

5 things you want to avoid

  1. More permanent stains. Great looking carpet can be ruined by an unattractive spot. Unlike protected carpet, unprotected carpet does not repel spillage. Being able to remove spots and spills more effectively, you can avoid permanent staining.
  2. “Grungy” traffic lanes. Traffic area soil is very abrasive and cuts carpet yarns like a knife. This damaging soil can easily bond to an unprotected carpet. By applying protector, you will increase the life of your carpet dramatically. You will also notice, when vacuuming your protected carpet, debris and soil will release from the carpet pile much more effectively.
  3. Difficult spot removal. The easier a spot is to remove, the less agitation and time it will take on your part. With protected carpets, many spots can be removed easily with just water or the free spot remover we have provided to you.
  4. Next professional cleaning not as effective. Protector makes your next professional cleaning more effective! Having protector applied to you carpet will enhance your next cleaning by insuring more soil will be removed with professional steam clean technology.
  5. Costly service calls. Although you want to call us out to handle any spot you cannot remove immediately, carpet protector helps you remove more spots than you could without protector. You may be able to save a minimum charge by removing the spot yourself.

Urine Soiling Notice

When cleaning urine spots, there is a difference between cleaning the urine soiling and treating for odor. cleaning existing urine spots may not remove any associated odor. In fact, it could increase the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time.

Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first deposited onto a floor or fabric, it is at an almost “neutral” state. At this time, it is easier to remove when it is fresh. Once it dries, it turns “alkaline” and becomes more difficult to remove. If left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure may already be done.

*This means tha no one can guaranted complete removal of all urine spots.
